"The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control….And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. If we live by the Spirit, let us also be guided by the Spirit." – Galatians 5:22-25
.
"Consider it all joy, my brothers, when you encounter various trials, for you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance." - James 1:2–3

In the Letter of James we are told, "Consider it all joy, my brothers, when you encounter various trials, for you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance." (James 1:2–3)

Moreover, Saint Francis of Assisi said that "if we accept such injustice, such cruelty and such contempt with patience, without being ruffled and without murmuring" and "if we bear all these injuries with patience and joy, thinking of the sufferings of our Blessed Lord, which we would share out of love for him . . . here . . . is perfect joy." (The Little Flowers of St. Francis of Assisi)

Real spiritual joy, therefore, refers to the ability to tolerate insult and injury from someone without hating him, in the hope that s/he might eventually repent of their sins and attain the everlasting joy of Heaven, wherein there is no hate.

Prayer:
Spirit, help me to remember that Your timing is perfect. I might feel as though I am not bearing much fruit right now, but as I live in You Lord, and as I reflect your grace and love and joy, I will bear good fruit for You. Amen.
