In His Hands

"For I hear the slander of many; there is terror on every side; they conspire against me and plot to take my life. But I trust in you, O Lord; I say, 'You are my God: My times are in your hands;' deliver me from my enemies and from those who pursue me. Let your face shine on your servant; save me in your unfailing love." - Psalm 31:13-16

How appropriate it is that our scripture for December 7 reminds us that "they conspire against me and plot to take my life". Today, December 7, is the day that President Roosevelt called the day "which will go down in infamy" because of the devastating and unprovoked attack on our US Naval forces at Pearl Harbor on this date in 1941. I'm certain that those who were awakened by the attack quickly prayed the lines in verse 15, asking God almighty to "deliver me from my enemies and from those who pursue me."

We all have our moments of frustration, even fear, when we feel the deck is stacked against us and we question whether the struggle is worth it. It's in times like these that we can identify with David in his struggles, when he says "You are my times are in your hands."

This season is the perfect time to re-ignite our hope....hope in the promise of new beginnings, new relationships, and the promise of salvation through the Christ child. My hope is that each of us looks for that promise of hope and new beginnings throughout this Christmas season. - Mark Snider, 2012

God, forgive us our inward focus and heal us of our fears and self doubts. Give us the hope and joy you brought to us through the gift of your son, Jesus. Amen.
