Innocence & Purity

"I look up to the mountains—does my help come from there? My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth! He will not let you stumble; the one who watches over you will not slumber. Indeed, he who watches over Israel never slumbers or sleeps. The Lord himself watches over you! The Lord stands beside you as your protective shade. The sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon at night. The Lord keeps you from all harm and watches over your life. The Lord keeps watch over you as you come and go, both now and forever." - Psalm 121

In these next moments of quiet contemplation, open your heart and your imagination to learn about all you receive as God's beloved child.

Recently, I was driving home from work at dusk. As I pulled into my driveway, I saw two young, brown bunnies eating grass. I stopped the car in the drive, not activating the garage door, so that I might watch them for a moment or two. I could see the blades of grass the one closest to me was eating. The bunnies’ big, black eyes, watched me. The bunnies stretched out their thin legs. One bunny cleaned its foot.

Having pet rabbits of my own, I am always fascinated at how clean an animal they are. They constantly clean their faces, feet, ears, bellies. But I have never seen wild bunnies taking their time to clean or to eat with such a sense of safety.

I was filled with wonder at these innocent creatures God created. Today’s psalm makes me think of how much God loves me and you and those bunnies. Christ has inherited the world and all that dwell in it. That means us. I am reminded that God's abiding presence in my life means I can feel safe no matter what happens.

Prayer:
Merciful God, look down upon me and see my desire to be a person of clean hands and pure heart, that I may receive your blessings. Protect me as your precious child. Help me to show your love and compassion to all I meet. Amen.
