Leading With Love

“Give thanks to the God of heaven, for his steadfast love endures forever.” – Psalm 136:26

February is both the month of love (Valentine’s Day) and leadership (Presidents’ Day). It seems like an odd pairing and, on a human level, I would tend to agree.

But let’s rise to a different plane. This will not be a jet-powered flight, but rather a supernaturally-powered trip. You see, the Lord Jesus Christ is ruler over the universe; He created it and He holds it all together in His hands (Colossians 1:15-18).

Jesus was an amazing leader when he directed the paths of 12 men for nearly three years; and who can blame the disciples for wanting to follow Him, with the love and peace He offered them.

But wait, there’s more. The other side of this coin is love, or on a follower’s level, care...does my Lord care about me? Based on His credentials (1 John 4:8) and His track record (I John 3:16), it becomes quite plain to see that Jesus Christ does indeed care. Would you not agree it is much easier to follow a compassionate, caring and loving leader, than one that is merely self-serving and wants to use you for their own benefit?

So during this month of Love and Leadership, let’s consider whole-heartedly following the one leader who not only displays, but also embodies the one character trait, LOVE, that makes following worth it...the Lord Jesus Christ!

Lord, help me to live like You, lead like You, and love like You, always! Amen.
