Lost Sheep

"So Jesus told them this story: "If a man has a hundred sheep and one of them gets lost, what will he do? Won't he leave the ninety-nine others in the wilderness and go to search for the one that is lost until he finds it? And when he has found it, he will joyfully carry it home on his shoulders. When he arrives, he will call together his friends and neighbors, saying, 'Rejoice with me because I have found my lost sheep.' In the same way, there is more joy in heaven over one lost sinner who repents and returns to God than over ninety-nine others who are righteous and haven't strayed away!" - Luke 15:3-7

Jesus answered the Pharisees' complaints about welcoming sinners with three parables about grace. In the first, a shepherd learned that one of his sheep was lost. He searched and searched until he found the lost sheep. When the man found the sheep, he was so overjoyed that he called his friends and neighbors to share the good news and invited them to rejoice with him. Such is the power of grace.

What does this parable show you about grace?

God of Grace, thank You for the love and care that You offer. You find me when I am lost. You love me when I am broken. You redeem me in my sinfulness. I offer You all honor and glory and praise for being my All in All. Amen.
