"Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and aliens, but fellow citizens with God's people and members of God's household, built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the chief cornerstone." - Ephesians 2:19-20

In our text today, the Apostle Paul moves from personal salvation (Eph 2:8-9) to reconciliation. There was a time when non-Jews were "excluded from citizenship ... foreigners to the covenants of the promise, without hope and without God" (Eph 2:12). But Jesus changed thatW We "who once were far away have been brought near through the blood of Christ" (Eph 2:13).

At one time Jews and non-Jews (Gentiles) were two separate peoples going in different directions. Jesus "made the two one." At one time there was a great obstacle in between us. Jesus "destroyed the barrier." At one time a "dividing wall of hostility" estranged us. Jesus, "our peace," abolished the wall by His work on the cross. Now, what Jesus has done for all of the nations, He can also do in your life.

Maybe you and your significant other are going in different directions. Jesus can make "the two one." Maybe there is a great obstacle distancing you from your children. Jesus can destroy the barrier. Maybe there is a dividing wall of hostility between you and a family member or friend. Jesus can destroy any wall that is in the way. Why?...

"For he himself is our peace" (Ephesians 2:14).

Holy One, there are some today who are more than ready for Jesus to make the two one, destroy the barrier, and obliterate dividing walls. But the other party is not willing to submit to You. This is our prayer--bring peace to the heart of the willing and crack through the hard heart of the unwilling. Thank You, Lord Jesus, that this can be done by Your work on the cross. In Jesus' name. Amen.
