A Song to Sing

“And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise." - Philippians 4:8

All of God’s children have a song to sing! Did you know that Scripture has as many commands for us to sing as it has commands to pray? Praise convicts us and our belief shows up in our praises as well.

“And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise." - Philippians 4:8

Generally, the greater the assignment, the longer it takes to experience success. Many are afraid to start a project or follow a dream because the conditions are not as favorable as they imagine they need to be in order to start. They are looking for every part of the project to be near perfect before risking that first baby step. Stop your negative thinking!. Once you are convinced that you can’t succeed, you won’t!

I tell young men and women who have big dreams that they must stay away from negative people. Negative people are short-term thinkers. If success will not come quickly to them, they abandon the dream. If we will consult Jesus, listen for His will, prayer without ceasing for direction in our lives, our attitude will become laced with joy no matter how daunting the challenge.

We also need to create reasonable timelines for our goals and dreams so that we won’t live in frustration and defeat. Accomplishing anything – regardless of how big or small – requires an accumulation of baby steps. It means faithfully taking action toward a desired goal day after day, month after month, and year after year. Success is truly the sum of many small efforts that are repeated day in and day out. It is not faith and works – it is faith that works! So we need to be willing to change the way we think about life.

Life may not always be exciting, but we all have a race to run. So why not run the race with joy and praise God with every step because His grace is sufficient.

"But none of these things move me; nor do I count my life clear to myself, so that I may finish my race with joy, and the ministry which I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify to the Gospel of the Lord Jesus, to testify to the gospel of the grace of God” (Acts 20:24).

Prayer:
Father, let me continually give You unrestrained praise. I thank You that I am alive to serve You today; I praise Your name because You have counted me as Your own. Help me to remember that praise not only glorifies You, it strengthens my faith, and affirms that You are in charge of the wider universe not just my small world. Help me to remember to give thanks in all things and offer prayers of adoration throughout this day. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
