Standing on the Promises, hymn

"'For I know the plans I have for you,' declares the LORD, 'plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.'" - Jeremiah 29:11

How can we not look upon this promise as our rock of understanding?

This scripture says it all – if we just listen and believe ... "plans to prosper, not to harm, hope for the future..." What more could we possibly need?

This brings to mind the old hymn, “Standing on the Promises" by Russell Kelso Carter, 1886

Standing on the promises of Christ my King,
Through eternal ages let His praises ring,
Glory in the highest, I will shout and sing,
Standing on the promises of God.

REFRAIN
Standing, standing,
Standing on the promises of God my Savior;
Standing, standing,
I’m standing on the promises of God.

Standing on the promises that cannot fail,
When the howling storms of doubt and fear assail,
By the living Word of God I shall prevail,
Standing on the promises of God.

Standing on the promises I now can see
Perfect, present cleansing in the blood for me;
Standing in the liberty where Christ makes free,
Standing on the promises of God.

Standing on the promises of Christ the Lord,
Bound to Him eternally by love’s strong cord,
Overcoming daily with the Spirit’s sword,
Standing on the promises of God.

Standing on the promises I shall not fall,
List’ning every moment to the Spirit’s call.
Resting in my Savior as my All in all,
Standing on the promises of God.

Prayer:
Heavenly Father, we ask that you give us the understanding to rely fully on your promises and not to question what plans you have for us. Wrap us in those promises. Please. In Jesus' precious and Holy Name. Amen
