Why Lord?

"May these words of my mouth and this meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer." - Psalm 19:14

Trials and tribulations in her life, including the murder of her only son in 2007, Emma Hughes-Jolley asks the question, "Why?"

All of us have asked this same question. Why is there hate, why is there hunger, why can't people love? Why? But, it is often in the midst of trials that we draw close to our Lord and our God.

So, the next time you struggle and ask "why," realize that God is OK with our questions. And yet he continues to love us, and he builds our relationship with friends, family, and of course, Him!

- by Emma I. Hughes-Jolley

I watch the sun rise in the sky
I ask God the question, Why?
Why is there hatred in the world?
Why are there starving boys and girls?
Why is there addiction everywhere?
Why are there people not willing to share?
Why is there prejudice and fear?
Why are there people not willing to be near?
I say, God please tell me why.
Then he whispers me a simple reply,
You must experience bad to know the good
You must do right just as you know you should
You must love me, yourself, and everyone
You must spread hope, faith, and love until your life is done
You must do unto others as you want them to do to you
You must persevere in all you do
All these things you must embrace
And God assures, everything else will fall into place.

Lord, I am sorry that I often question You. Keep me strong in You, my Rock and my Redeemer. Amen.
