A Woman of Faith

"Then Hannah prayed: ‘My heart rejoices in the Lord! The Lord has made me strong. Now I have an answer for my enemies; I rejoice because you rescued me.’"- 1 Samuel 2:1

"Always be joyful. Never stop praying. Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus." – 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

Hannah had been barren. Her husband’s other wife, Peninnah, had no problem bearing children. She would use this against Hannah and provoke her to tears -- cruel, insensitive and unloving.

Finally, God decided to answer the prayers of Hannah and give her a child, Samuel. After Hannah had Samuel, she sang/prayed a psalm. In the first verse of it she says that she ridicules or derides her enemies, her husband’s second wife, because of God’s salvation/deliverance.

Do you see how Hannah got back at her enemies? She didn’t tell them I told you so. She didn’t flaunt her child in front of them. She didn’t tell them how mean they were. No, she praised God. She got back at her enemies by praising God for providing for her.

What does this mean for us today? As long as we rejoice in our salvation through Christ, our enemies can never put us down. Our treasures are not here on earth and we are even called strangers to this world. We have won no matter what happens here on the earth, because of our Savior’s work on the cross, and the promise of our eternal home in Heaven.

So, rejoice today in your deliverance and don’t worry about what your enemies are saying.

Dear Father. I thank You for Your love for me. Help me today to rejoice always, pray continually and give thanks in all circumstances. Amen.
