Praise Him / Hymn Sing

This week was a holiday weekend, when attendance would be a little lower, so both services came together for a Praise Him / Hymn Sing. There wasn't a sermon, but rather 5 key movements (Creation, Music, Love, Christ and Doxology) during worship, opening with scripture to support them, and then offering up a time of reflection. These scriptures and reflections are posted here, just in case you missed them, or in case you want to go deeper. Enjoy!

A Call to Discipleship

God called Samuel while he slept in the Temple. Samuel was obedient and answered, "Here I am, Lord."

Jesus called the disciples to come and follow Him. It wasn’t in any grand manner, in any grand place. He simply spoke to them, asking them to follow Him, and they leave everything to follow Him.

What does it mean to be called by God?

Where is a Big Fish When You Need One?

Jonah was given a call by God to go to Nineveh and to preach to them the need to repent of their sinful ways and worship the Lord. He does not want to go. He dislikes the Assyrians, he finds this all a waste of time, deep down, he doesn't want the people of Nineveh to receive God's love and mercy. So he runs the opposite direction, gets on a boat and sails away from all of his troubles. Or so he thinks!

Listen Up!

As we continue to talk about the importance of God's call upon our life; as we jump deeper and deeper into a relationship with Christ, a huge component that we consistently forget is how well we are "listening" to God.

Hunger for Healing

Healings happen all around us, every moment of every day. The problem is, we often don’t see them as miracles from God.

Have you had a miracle in your own life? Has God done something extra-ordinary for you, a spouse, a child, a friend?

Bring your brokenness and pain to the Lord. Let Him heal you -- body, mind and spirit -- today!

Are You Willing?

In Jesus' day there were people who were considered holy and clean, and there were those who were considered unholy and unclean.

Jesus did not spend His time on earth catering only to the holy and clean. He was about breaking bread, reaching out a loving hand and lending a listening ear to the unholy and the unclean as well.

Who can you reach out to this Epiphany season. Who can you bring into the love of Christ? Are you willing?

Forever Changed

Have you ever wondered what it will be like when Jesus comes in all of His Glory to set up His kingdom and bring the world as we know it to an end?

Today’s texts give us a glimpse of this yet… future… event.

Jesus is trying to prepare his disciples for what lies ahead for Him, as well as for them. He speaks plainly to them in regards to His death and resurrection.

Ash Wednesday

Lent is a time to make room for God. To re-connect with God and with one another, through very basic means—prayer; scripture; worship; service; and fasting.
How will you make room for God this Lent?

Siding With the Lord is Tempting

As we set out on this Lenten journey, are we as focused as Jesus? As we grow weak and tired, will we remember the truth of our baptism: that WE are claimed…chosen as God's beloved. As we walk along life’s path, will we rest assured that Christ walks with us? The work is not easy in this wilderness called life, but it is important.

Are You Siding with Christ?

Many men and women in the Bible faced temptation - temptation to do the opposite of what God asked them, temptation to trust another person instead of the Lord, temptation to do your own thing under your own strength instead of relying fully on God.

If Adam and Even, Abraham and Sarah, Jonah, the disciples and Christ himself were tempted, who are we to think we will not be.

What is tempting you? What is a stumbling block, temptation, or out-and-out sin, which you need to give to the Lord this Lenten season?

I AM the Messiah!

Who is Jesus for you?

Jesus is not a simple man. But this question is the same question that Jesus asked the disciples, "Who do you say I AM?" Make it personal for you by asking, "Who is Jesus for you?...personally...intimately?"

Are you meeting Jesus somewhere different this Lenten season, so you can actually answer this question honestly, "What does it mean to have Jesus as my Savior, as my Messiah, as the Great I AM?"

Who Do You Say That He Is?

We call Him by man names: Lamb of God, Friend, Great I AM, Shepherd, Guardian of Souls, Messiah. Who is Jesus Christ to you?

This question can be the most important question of your life, one which needs to be answered intimately and honestly.

His name and nature and purpose and love have been revealed to us through scripture. But we need to be answering this question with more than just mere lip-service. Jesus needs to be our All-in-All, our everything, our Savior, our Redeemer, our Sustainer, our Judge and our King.

Is He all of this, and so much more, for you?

Jesus Was Angry!

Who in the world does this carpenter from Nazareth think he is? This isn't the "gentle Jesus meek and mild" we’re accustomed to. What is it that has created such passion in him?

Have You Ever Been Angry?

We carry a lot of pent up anger around with us. We know it isn't right. We know it isn't healthy, but that doesn't stop us from keeping it within us, anyway. Maybe it is time to get to the root of the problem, and finally let it go. Maybe it's time to lay it at the foot of the cross forever.

For God So Loved the World

God so loved us that he sent His one and only Son to die for us on the cross. He gave His all for us...have we done the same for Him?

Love is a two-way street, between human and human, and between human and God. If we love God with all our heart, soul, mind and strength, as He asks of us, then we will love our neighbor as we love our self.

How Can We Show Love to the World?

Jesus asked us to love one another, and on a one-on-one relationship that can be easy. But, how do we show the love of God to the world? We will spend some time this evening, talking about what Christ intended the church to be like, how we can learn to put others first, how we can be more gracious and forgiving to one another, and so much more.

The Hour Has Come

Jesus spent great amounts of time letting the disciples know that He would one day be taken from them. He told them in parable form. He told them through His actions. He even told them as clear as He could say it. But they did not understand. How could the Messiah, the Son of God, die?

Now the time is close and He wants them to be prepared. He tells them the Hour Has Come! Code words for, I am about to be crucified, the disciples did not understand. Do we?

Maundy Thursday

CHRIST’S LAMENT FOR HIS FAITHLESS CHURCH: HE LOVED THEM TO THE END

In this Maundy Thursday service, we encountered the ten laments that Jesus had for His faithless church. We interspersed music which spoke to each one, and then ended the service with the stripping of the church, leaving it bare for Good Friday, and the time Jesus spent in the tomb.

Healed With His Stripes: FEET

Second sermon in the series, Healed With His Stripes. This message centers on the precious feet of Jesus, what they meant to Him, and what they mean for us today. We can be healed by Jesus' stripes. We can be emboldened by His love. And, we can be empowered to enter into the world, using our feet for ministry!

Healed With His Stripes: SWEAT

Over the last couple of weeks we have been understanding more fully what it means to be healed by the stripes of Jesus. This Sunday we learn that in the Garden of Gethsemane, Jesus sweat blood, and by the sweat and blood of his brow, he won back our willpower. In the Garden of Eden, Adam and Eve lost willpower when they surrendered their dominion to Satan. In the Garden of Gethsemane, Jesus said, “Not my will, but Yours be done” (Matthew 26:39) He submitted to the WILL OF GOD as He shed sweat drops of His Precious Blood to redeem our willpower.

Healed With His Stripes: HEAD

We cannot understand all that Jesus endured for us. Take the thorns, twisted into a crown by the hands of a Roman soldier, thrust down upon Jesus’ head with rough hands, driven deeper into the flesh of the skull with a rod, making the pain more extreme than we can ever know. But, as cruel as this treatment of the Lord must have been, the thing which is so illogical, is that He endured it all for a sinful creation.

Healed With His Stripes: SIDE

Water, Blood, Spirit. Three ways in which Christ comes to us, loves us, and heals us. Three testimonies which all agree. Jesus is the Christ. He died for sinners, He rose in victory, He ascended and reigns on high. Water, Blood, Spirit. Three timeless concepts from John's letter which still apply to us, even today.
